No more silencing!

UNDERSTANDING MENTAL HEALTH

Defining and understanding mental health can be challenging at times. In many cases, it is not a topic that is openly discussed. Social norms in various countries inaccurately depict mental health difficulties as a sign of weakness or an inability to be strong-minded. The U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services states that, “Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It effects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood” (https://www.mentalhealth.gov/basics/what-is-mental-health).

In order to de-stigmatize mental health & to address the deep-rooted issues related to it, talking about mental health is crucial (especially about cultural shaming & silencing). Mental health related challenges are real and can be fatal. Using social media as a platform to raise mental health awareness is not only your right; it is also an opportunity to find like-minded individuals, empowering you to see that you are not alone!
